Adult Education

Written by Pastor Aaron Decker. Posted in News

There are lots of opportunities for adult study at Immanuel!  Every Sunday morning during the learning hour between services, our adult forum takes a deeper look at one of the lessons from worship.  Occasionally, we choose a special topic for our study in place of our regular offering.

Our Monday evening Women's Bible Study is currently taking a break, but will return soon, once the weather warms up a bit!

Wednesdays during Lent, we gather at 6:00 p.m. for a soup supper with study.  This year, we'll be hearing from some well-known theologians as we explore the Bible and work to gain an "engaging, nuanced, hopeful, and positive relationship" with our sacred texts.  We follow our study with evening prayer at 7:15.  During March, these sessions will take place at Immanuel, while April's gatherings will be at Christ Lutheran Church in West Boylston (112 Crescent Street).

Pastor Dan's weekly Thursday Morning Bible Study takes place at 10:30-11:30 a.m.  We're currently working our way through the Gospel of Matthew.  Our small group meets faithfully from week to week, and is eager for you to join us!

Thursday Evenings, Pastor Aaron is offering a chance to dig into our faith a little more deeply in an "Advanced Faith Study."  The group looks at a variety of topics, including Biblical languages, Lutheran theology, and the church's history.  All along the way, we reach into the scriptures for a better understanding of what God has been saying to His people throughout the ages.  Though a more advanced education offering, everyone is welcome, and you'll find you fit in well!  We meet 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Immanuel.

Pastor Aaron’s "Faith Conversations" take place at 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Fridays at Pastor Aaron's house (3 Lexington Drive in West Boylston) around coffee and fellowship.  The topic of conversation is the Book of Revelation.  No experience is necessary for this informal gathering.  Come for one week or for many.  Hope you can come!

Souper Bowl of Caring Thanks

Written by Pastor Aaron Decker. Posted in News

Thanks to everyone who gave to this year's Souper Bowl of Caring collection!  To be fair, for a congregation our size, $304 isn't a lot of money.  But do recall that people were just asked to drop spare change into the pot this year, and this collection is over and above those gifts given in our normal congregation's offering.  I'm always amazed when God's people are asked to give just a little bit more, and people indeed reach into their pockets and do so.

ELCA World Hunger is our national church's hunger ministry.  The money they receive is spent both domestically (25%) and globally (75%) to relieve the immediate hunger needs in our world, help communities develop the resources to feed themselves, and do education and avocacy around hunger issues.  So many people are helped in real, practical ways through this ministry.  In recent times, ELCA World Hunger has suffered funding shortfalls because of economic and ministry challenges in our current situation.  This money is so desperately needed to continue this important work.  Thank you so much for being a part of it.

The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national, youth-led movement to alleviate hunger that transcends denominational boundaries.  This year, 11,504 groups were involved in this ministry, and raised over $9 million for hunger programs.

Men's Ministry

Written by Pastor Aaron Decker. Posted in News

Immanuel has a ministry to serve those who aren't able to keep up with the tasks around the house and who have insufficient means to cope on their own.  These men meet one Saturday morning each month for coffee and fellowship from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. and then go to work projects from 8 to 10.  We welcome any proposed projects; if you see a need anywhere in the community please contact the church office.  New members are always welcome!
