2/26 - Norma's Cross-Stitch

. Posted in 2013 Lenten Readings

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…and you shall be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.” [Acts 1:8]

Recently I came across a counted cross-stitch Norma Mellor made for me. How many of you also received good wishes in the form of Norma’s cross-stitch pieces? She made many over the years. I couldn’t help but think of the witnessing she had done and how many people had been touched through her cross-stitch ministry. It was a gift she had to lift your spirits or just let you know she was thinking about you. She enjoyed planning each piece, stitching it and sending it off. I also enjoyed receiving it and treasure it as a special gift. Whenever I see it, I am reminded of Norma, her beautiful handiwork and the witnessing that she did.

Norma witnessed in many ways during her lifetime. I remember her cooking meals or baking something special for people. She witnessed in her nursing career with patients and co-workers, with family and friends and anyone else she felt “needed” it.  She was a blessing to many and witnessed ‘til her final days.

Witnesses come in varied ways. Think of others who have touched your life with their witnessing - some at church, some family members, some friends, some co-workers, some strangers, some in the form of kind deeds, some in words, a phone call, cards, emails or like Norma, a hand made, specially thought out cross-stitch piece. How can we be witnesses to others?

Thank you, God, for witnesses like Norma who share their love of you in their everyday activities. Help us to do likewise. Amen.
